What is your name, and what do you do?
My name is Oliver Evans. I am an Apprentice at Dalcour Maclaren. I work on Severn Trent Water and Thames Water schemes.
What made you decide an apprenticeship was for you?
Throughout sixth form, I had decided full-time university wasn't for me, I was desperate to start working, and seeing that I could still work towards a degree seemed a no-brainer.
What are the benefits of being an apprentice at DM?
DM is a great place to be an apprentice for two main reasons, firstly there's a tremendous amount of support available such as line managers, the wider team, the people team and most importantly we have a growing team of apprentices.
Secondly, DM is a young company with so many starting their careers here, making it a brilliant working and learning environment where we are all learning together. Both these factors are unique to DM.
What would you say is the most interesting thing you have learnt?
Far too much to choose from! As an apprentice, we are constantly learning, most of the time without realising. We gain a great understanding of the legal side of our work, but also the people side of the job.
What is your favourite part of your role?
I love how much my role continues to change and develop as I progress through the apprenticeship, there are so many opportunities in DM. I also enjoy helping new apprentices come into the business.
